Effective July 10, 2020, Governor Baker's order allowing the deferment of required smoke detector inspections has been rescinded. All smoke detector inspections that were deferred as a result of this order must be completed by October 9, 2020
The Chelmsford Fire Prevention Office has resumed performing inspections for smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector placement for the sale of a home. Inspections must be applied for online by using the Online Permitting link.
If you have already applied for an inspection, please contact the Fire Prevention Office at (978) 251-4288 to schedule your inspection. If there is no application on file for your inspection, please fill out an application on the Town of Chelmsford Fire Department Permitting site and then call to schedule.

In addition, together with other Town departments, the Chelmsford Fire Department is also responsible for emergency preparedness and disaster mitigation. The Fire Department along with the Chelmsford Police Department is responsible for the E-9-1-1 Emergency Dispatch Center.
