Improper disposal of medical sharps—such as needles and syringes—poses serious safety risks and is prohibited by law. To help keep Chelmsford safe, the Health Department hosts quarterly Medical Sharps Drop-Off Days, now held on Thursdays, for Chelmsford residents only.
Residents may drop off commonly used sharps, including needles, syringes, lancets, auto-injectors, injection pens, infusion sets, and connection needles/sets. Sharps must be placed in a rigid plastic container with a secure lid (such as a detergent bottle, bleach bottle, plastic coffee container, or approved sharps container). Please tape the lid securely and ensure the container is at least three-quarters full.
No registration is required. Sharps are accepted only during the designated dates and times at the Chelmsford Health Department, 50 Billerica Road, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Proper disposal helps prevent injury, protects waste handlers, and supports a safer community for all!
